Driver Tees

12/20/2022

The height of the tee is often given too little attention. Tee height can influence how you swing and the distance you are able to achieve, but how high should the tee ideally be?
To find the correct height for hitting a driver, you first must look at what is the right swing path for the driver. The club should always come from the inside to the ball. The ball is positioned slightly more to the lead foot (left foot for right-handed players) compared to a short club and the ball is hit on the upswing which translates to a positive attack angle.

With the correct tee height, the driver swing can be controlled specifically without having to change the swing greatly.
Low tee
What does low mean? A low tee height must still be playable with a driver.  Here the center of the ball is below the crown of the driver. At impact, the club head must not be too high, otherwise the ball will be "topped".

With a low tee it is not easy and maybe even impossible to hit the ball with an upward motion. The player is more likely to hit with a downward motion which translates to a negative attack angle. This is a normal reaction when the tee is too low.

 Normal Tee Height
Here the crown of the driver is at the same level as the "equator" of the ball. This is the most common tee height and you do not have to make any major changes to the swing.
